Pine Lodge Gardens land dates back to the 1800 when the mining of tin and copper was taking place. We inherited large mature trees on the estate, many over 300 years old. There is also a collection of 80 magnolias throughout the gardens with herbaceous borders and many beautiful statues. Wonderful granite setts are laid in large areas. The 30 acre estate has several gardens:
  • Japanese Garden: Authentic Japanese garden inspired by a visit to Japan in the 80s.
  • A Lake: An acre lake which houses a breeding pair of black swans and many water fowl
  • Top Garden: With a serpentine path winds down to a bridge entwined with a scented Wisteria.
  • Woodland Garden: The seasons bring thousands of snowdrops followed by native bluebells and camellias. In autumn an acer glade is alive with brilliant colour.
  • Winter Garden: With over 600 flowering plants.
  • Cottage Garden: Wth a combination of herbaceous, bulbs, shrubs, trees, ferns and climbers.
  • Sunken Garden: A warmest and pleasant seating area and has a beautiful cascading water fountain.
  • Arboretum: With Firs, Abies koreana, Prunus serrula, Betula costata and Betula jacquemontii.
  • Pinetum: 80 different conifers in 4 acres of land.
  • Slave Garden: With a figure which forms the centrepiece of the garden holding a sundial above his head.
  • Water Garden: Built solely for the wild life and it attracts many species.
We have the largest collection of plants in the county and are holders of the national collection of Grevillea from Australia.
