Slane Castle EstateThe approach to Slane Castle is along a curved driveway offering an iconic view of the Castle and River Boyne. Home to the Conyngham family and world-famous concert venue, Slane Castle Estate extends over 1500 acres in the Boyne Valley, conveniently close to Dublin.Slane Castle is one of the most architecturally exciting buildings in Ireland. The castle is three storeys over basement, in the Gothic Revival style. The King George IV Ballroom is a highlight, completed in 1821 for the visit of King George IV, this impressive rotunda with a magnificent domed ceiling is one of the finest examples of Neo Gothic works in Ireland. Originally designed by Thomas Hopper as a library, it features perfect acoustics and is where U2 recorded The Unforgettable Fire album. The classical front hall features Greek columns and key patterns on the walls and many marble Greek sculptures, including a sculpture of King George IV of England, donated by the king himself.
